Post Budget Memorandum 2008-09 Request to members for their points.
 

 The Hon’ble Finance Minister, Shri P. Chidambaram has presented the Union Budget-2008 on February 29, 2008.

The All India Association of Industries has been regularly submitting its Post Budget Memorandum to the Union Ministry of Finance. For the year 2008-09, we propose to submit the Memorandum by March 15, 2008.

The Memorandum is based on the issues represented to the Chamber by its members. Therefore, to enable us to represent to the Government about all the concerned sectors and the Policy Pronouncements / relevant Tax laws, we request you to send your Company’s points to the undersigned by or before March 15, 2008.

Since the exercise of collation, discussions and finalization is time consuming, your timely response will help us to properly consider your suggestions and include those in the Memorandum.

The feedback should contain MACRO and MICRO suggestions on the issues relating to the following topics, arising out of the Union Budget 2008-09.

  1. Economy / Economic Policy

  2. Infrastructure

  3. Industry

  4. Financial Sector

  5. VAT, CST and Roadmap towards GST

  6. Indirect Taxes, i.e. Customs, Excise, Service Tax

Storage Facilities for import cargo
 

In continuation to circulars No.TM/D/4-3/11 of 96-97 dtd. 3.11.2005 and TM/A/15-22/23 of 95-96 dtd. 10-1-2008 and 31-1-2008, shed at Cotton Avenue is notified /specified for storage of import cargo with immediate effect under the provisions of Section 3.3.(A) (II) of chapter III of Scale of Rates. Permission for storage of cargo at this shed shall be granted to the importers or their authorized CHAs, subject to the compliance of the conditions, as stipulated in the circular dt. 3.11.2005.

Members may take benefit of the above storage facilities and bring more cargo to the Port.

Central Excise Union Budget 2007-08 Changes made by the Finance Bill, 2007
 

Hon’ble Finance Minister has introduced the Finance Bill, 2008, in the Lok Sabha on 29th February, 2008. Changes in Excise duties have been made through the Finance Bill and through notification No.2/2008 to 14/2008 Central Excise, all dtd. 1.3.2008 and Notifications No.10/2008 to 14/2008 Central Excise (N.T.) all dtd. 1/3/2008.

The changes brought out are highlighted in the Explanatory Notes annexed to this Trade Notice. These notes explain in simple language the changes made in the budget. However, for a full and correct appreciation of the changes the Finance Bill and the Notifications issued may be studied. In case of conflict the Bill entries and notifications will prevail.

The changes relating to the duties of Central Excise affected by the Finance Bill, 2008 or by the Notifications issued, (unless a different date of effect is indicated in the Bill or in any notification) will come into force from the midnight between 29th February, 2008 and 1st March, 2008.
